Schutzhund training?

Question by Courtney E: Schutzhund training?
Are there breed restrictions for Schutzhund training? ex: just for shepherds? or can any trained dog do it?
Shes a pit, but i want to compete with her. shes very well trained in obedience but we want to do a sport. Shes not built for conformation classes, but we were thinking about agility. shes a little clumsy though.

Answer by ?Majestik moose© (?NO CHICKEN?)
there is no restrictions for training for fun/excercise.

there are some with competing, depending on the organization.

what breed to you have?

ADD: bullies being allowed to compete has been off and on for a while. they are, then suddenly(and usually, when they are out performing the other “regular schH breeds”) they aren’t anymore.

it also depends on the organization, and some trainers feel pit type dogs should not be trained in protection work, or sch, so they won’t work with them.

call up your states sch club, and go to a few events(no dog yet). talk to them.

are there any free dog/puppy training web sites ????

Question by laynaNpatysmom: are there any free dog/puppy training web sites ????
hi everyone! ;-) I was just wondering does anybody have any suggestions on how to train a 5 month pit bull to be calmer. he likes people way to much when I take him to petsmart he jumps on and licks everyone. he is doing good as far as all the other training and I socialize him well so its not like he is never around people he just loves to play !! is it because he is a puppy still? i cant afford training classes. I feel bad scolding him at the stores or any where else cuz people say ” oh he’s just a puppy. ” but I would think that’s the best way to stop it, when people are around.
any advice is wanted. if you know of a free website that would be nice too. And please no rude comments about pit bulls !!
sorry I forgot to add I dont want him nutered .

Question by Three 5 Mafia: What are the best puppy training books/methods?
I am getting a 10 week old female american eskimo dog. I need some good books on basic behavioral training, housebreaking, etc. I don’t want a method that uses treats as a means to train the dogs.

Also, how young should one start training a puppy?

Best answer:

Answer by P Diddy Presto
First off do not listen to your parents or anyone else. Times have changed and the way to discipline and train animals has evolved with new training techniques and reward systems that work. Go to your neighbvorhood pet store and talk with other customers as alot of them are breeders trainers and overall experienced animal owners. ( not the typical 16 yr old with part time job) also it would be a good idea to go to a few sessions with your animal and see how he responds to what kind of training.

Do you have any suggestions for house training dogs?

Question by PlasticTrees: Do you have any suggestions for house training dogs?
We took in a stray a month ago, and he and my other boy dog have to mark each other’s territory all day-even after coming inside from their walks. We got them both neutered today and I’m hoping this will help.

What are some good techniques that work? I’ve met people that have trained their dogs so that they NEVER go in the house, and they can just open the door and the dogs do their business and come back in w/out wandering off. I don’t know how they did it. Please help!

1 is a Rat Terrier Mix and 1 is a Mini Dachshund, both about 1 y/o.

Can I find a dog training schedule online?

Question by ICYUNVME: Can I find a dog training schedule online?
I trained my basset hound with out a real tentative schedule but my pit bull needs more structured training, he does not have behavioral issues, and is generally a good dog, his issues include, jumping not sitting when told, barking out side, and so one. If any one knows of a planned training schedule online, that is like Day 1, do this, Day 2 do this, and so on and so forth.
Thanks,
B

crate training?

Question by pilar: crate training?
this crate training business is pretty new. dogs and cats used to be the only pets not caged up and now it’s only cats. what gives? does anyone else find this unnecessary? my dog is a member of my family, albeit a slightly retarded member. i would not put any of my other family members in a crate for half the day either.
btw i trained my dog the regular way so that he does not tear up the house when i am gone. yes it took a little bit of time and effort but having a dog should take time and effort. also it is not very hard to potty train your dog.

Best answer:

Answer by Shari S
No, but they probably wouldn’t go on the floor either. It really works. That is for house breaking reasons. Once this is accomplished, they can stay out all the time, just like the other members of your family.

i’ve never met a dog that needed to be taught that, much less a dobie. If you are good to the dogs, they will love you and protect your family and your home.
