Question by desta: What age should a puppy begin obedience training classes?
My Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Sophie, is almost 12 weeks old. Are the classes sponsered by PetSmart and Petco worthwhile, or should I look for other pet training specialists, like Man’s Best Friend?

I haven’t been able to find Huppy Puppy brand training pads since Walmart discontinued them a few months ago. They are the best quality I have ever used and are now gone. Any suggestions?

Walmart also discontinued the ones I was using as well.
I contacted the manufacturer, and you should as well. I have no idea why Walmart has a tendency to choose what the public wants, and doesn’t want. You will have the option to buy directly.
In order to make things easier though, you may want to bite the bullet and use the next best product.

I am getting a 10 week old female american eskimo dog. I need some good books on basic behavioral training, housebreaking, etc. I don’t want a method that uses treats as a means to train the dogs.

First off do not listen to your parents or anyone else. Times have changed and the way to discipline and train animals has evolved with new training techniques and reward systems that work. Go to your neighbvorhood pet store and talk with other customers as alot of them are breeders trainers and overall experienced animal owners. ( not the typical 16 yr old with part time job) also it would be a good idea to go to a few sessions with your animal and see how he responds to what kind of training.

I live in CT, and i need the names of some good puppy schools in CT, preferably Fairfield County. If anyone has one that is good, and reccommended. I have an 11 week old shiba puppy, and I really need to get him sociaized with other dogs, and need some training as well.

Petsmart provides training classes, and there are other dogs there, so socialization is one of many things you get out of it. It is $ 119 for eight classes, one class per week. What is an appropriate age to take your puppy to puppy classes? When I get it, she will be 2 months. And, what Obedience Class would you recommend?

Most Puppy Kindergarten classes are open to puppies from 8 weeks old to 4 months old. You might want to wait until she’s had a least 2-3 sets of vaccinations.
I would certainly recommend a Puppy K class – excellent socialization for the puppy, as well as basic obedience, and dealing with puppy-specific problems (housebreaking, nipping/biting, etc.). Most local kennel clubs or dog training clubs offer these classes.

Hi,
Using a crate is the easiest method. In a nutshell, here are the basic steps:
1. Take time off to housetrain your puppy.
2. Start using a crate the day you bring her home.
3. Take your puppy outside for a bathroom break every one to two hours during the day.
4. Plan a middle-of-the-night potty run for young puppies.
5. Shower her with treats and praise when she does a good job.
6. Don’t punish your pup for accidents you haven’t seen.

Question by John: When should I start boxer puppy obedience training?
I’ve just picked up our new puppy, gotten him home and setup his little play pen. Maybe someone can tell me when and how to start early obedience puppy training? As I know sometimes others wait too long and are faced with a stubborn, messy adolescent dog. I’d like to avoid it because i guess boxer dogs has strong character.
